Mitophagy and mitochondria biogenesis are differentially induced in rat skeletal muscles during immobilization and/or remobilization

Deval, Christiane ; Calonne, Julie ; Coudy-Gandilhon, Cécile ; Vazeille, Emilie ; Bechet, Daniel ; Polge, Cécile ; Taillandier, Daniel ; Attaix, Didier ; Combaret, Lydie

In: International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2020, vol. 21, no. 10, p. 3691

Mitochondria alterations are a classical feature of muscle immobilization, and autophagy is required for the elimination of deficient mitochondria (mitophagy) and the maintenance of muscle mass. We focused on the regulation of mitochondrial quality control during immobilization and remobilization in rat gastrocnemius (GA) and tibialis anterior (TA) muscles, which have very different atrophy...

Role of mature sphingolipids in yeast: new tools

Conzelmann, Andreas

In: Molecular Microbiology, 2012, vol. 84, no. 6, p. 991–994

Sphingolipids of yeast have been described as being important for numerous cell biological phenomena such as heat resistance, endocytosis, stress resistance and many others. The genetic or pharmacological elimination of specific features or entire classes of sphingolipids has pinpointed specific sphingolipids as pivotal regulators in many processes. The report by Epstein et al. adds two new tools...

Frameworks, description languages and fusion engines for multimodal interactive systems

Dumas, Bruno ; Lalanne, Denis (Dir.)

Thèse de doctorat : Université de Fribourg, 2010 ; no. 1695.

The field of multimodal interaction grew during the last decade, as a consequence of the advent of innovative input interfaces, as well as the development of research fields such as speech recognition. However, multimodal fusion and combination did not evolve at the same rate, which lead to a chasm between the use of input modalities and the different possibilities of combining them. This PhD...

Acyl-CoA-binding protein, Acb1p, is required for normal vacuole function and ceramide synthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Faergeman, Nils J. ; Feddersen, Søren ; Christiansen, Janne K. ; Larsen, Morten K. ; Schneiter, Roger ; Ungermann, Christian ; Mutenda, Kudzai ; Roepstroff, Peter ; Knudsen, Jens

In: Biochemical Journal, 2004, vol. 380, p. 907-918

In the present study, we show that depletion of acyl-CoA-binding protein, Acb1p, in yeast affects ceramide levels, protein trafficking, vacuole fusion and structure. Vacuoles in Acb1p-depleted cells are multi-lobed, contain significantly less of the SNAREs (soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive fusion protein attachment protein receptors) Nyv1p, Vam3p and Vti1p, and are unable to fuse in vitro. Mass...
