In: Eclogae Geologicae Helvetiae, 2006, vol. 99, no. Supplement 1, p. S1-S20

Near Karnezeika a roughly 140 m thick Upper Cretaceous section consists of interbedded pelagic limestones, cherts and coarse polymict breccias including ophiolites and shallow water limestones. At the base, pink pelagic limestones rest on deeply altered and fractured Lower Jurassic Pantokrator Limestone. This first pelagic facies is dated as middle Turonian, based on planktonic Foraminifera. Over...

Stampfli, G. M. ; Borel, Gilles D. ; Marchant, R. ; Mosar, Jon

In: Journal of the Virtual Explorer, 2002, vol. 8, p. 77-106

Reconstructions of the Tethyan realm have been a matter of debate for a long time. Controversies spring usually from a lack of well constrained geological data which can be interpreted in different ways, or, from a lack of constraints on the plate tectonics framework. The western Alps region tends to escape these shortcomings due to a wealth of geological data regarding for examples the...
