High-resolution x-ray-emission study of 1s4p and 1s3d two-electron photoexcitations in Kr

Kavčič, Matjaz ; Žitnik, M. ; Sokaras, D. ; Weng, T.-C. ; Alonso-Mori, R. ; Nordlund, D. ; Dousse, Jean-Claude ; Hoszowska, Joanna

In: Physical Review A, 2014, vol. 90, no. 2, p. 022513

High-energy-resolution photoexcited KN2,3 x-ray-emission measurements were carried out on krypton with the excitation energy tuned around the 1s4p and 1s3d double-excitation thresholds. Comprehensive two-dimensional resonant inelastic x-ray-scattering maps were recorded for the range of excitation and emission energies corresponding to both types of double excitations. The double-excitation...

Dissociation of chloromethanes upon resonant σ* excitation studied by x-ray scattering

Bohinc, R. ; Žitnik, M. ; Bučar, K. ; Kavčič, Matjaz ; Journel, L. ; Guillemin, R. ; Marchenko, T. ; Simon, M. ; Cao, Wei

In: The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2014, vol. 139, no. 13, p. 134302

The dissociation process following the Cl K-shell excitation to σ* resonances is studied by high resolution spectroscopy of resonant elastic and inelastic x-ray scattering on CH3Cl, CH2Cl2, CHCl3, and CCl4 molecules. Calculations employing the transition potential and Delta-Kohn-Sham DFT approach are in good agreement with the measured total fluorescence yield and show the presence of...

Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering at the limit of subfemtosecond natural lifetime

Marchenko, T. ; Journel, L. ; Marin, T. ; Guillemin, R. ; Carniato, S. ; Žitnik, M. ; Kavčič, Matjaz ; Bučar, K. ; Mihelič, A. ; Hoszowska, Joanna ; Cao, Wei ; Simon, M.

In: The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2011, vol. 134, no. 14, p. 144308

We present measurements of the resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) spectra of the CH3I molecule in the hard-x-ray region near the iodine L2 and L3 absorption edges. We show that dispersive RIXS spectral features that were recognized as a fingerprint of dissociative molecular states can be interpreted in terms of ultrashort natural lifetime of ∼200 attoseconds in the case of the iodine...

High-resolution KMM radiative Auger x-ray emission spectra of calcium induced by synchrotron radiation

Cao, Wei ; Kavčič, Matjaz ; Dousse, Jean-Claude ; Berset, Michel ; Bučar, K. ; Budnar, M. ; Fennane, Karima ; Hoszowska, Joanna ; Maillard, Yves-Patrick ; Szlachetko, Jakub ; Szlachetko, Monika ; Žitnik, M.

In: Physical Review A, 2011, vol. 83, no. 4, p. 042513

The KMM radiative Auger (RA) x-ray spectra of solid Ca were induced by monochromatic synchrotron radiation and measured with a high-resolution von Hamos bent crystal spectrometer. Two excitation energies were employed, one in the near K threshold region and the second well above the K absorption edge. The KMM RA spectral structure and relative intensity with respect to the diagram ...

Double L₃M ionization of Pd induced by impact with medium-energy electrons

Cao, Wei ; Dousse, Jean-Claude ; Hoszowska, Joanna ; Kavčič, Matjaz ; Kayser, Yves ; Schenker, Jean-Luc ; Žitnik, M.

In: Physical Review A: atomic, molecular and optical physics, 2011, vol. 83, no. 2, p. 022708

The electron-induced L₃M two-step double ionization cross sections of metallic Pd were determined experimentally for incident electron beam energies ranging from the double ionization threshold up to 18 keV. The double L₃M ionization cross sections were derived from the intensity ratios (ILαM:ILα) of the resolved M satellites to the parent diagram lines. The sample was...

Synchrotron-radiation-based determination of Xe L-subshell Coster-Kronig yields: a reexamination via high-resolution x-ray spectroscopy

Cao, Wei ; Dousse, Jean-Claude ; Hoszowska, Joanna ; Žitnik, M. ; Kavčič, Matjaz ; Bučar, K.

In: Physical Review A, 2010, vol. 81, no. 1, p. 012501

The xenon L-subshell Coster-Kronig (CK) transition yields were revisited via high-resolution measurements of the Lα1,2 (L₃-M4,5) and Lβ₁ (L₂-M₄) x-ray emission lines. The L x-ray spectra were measured employing a Johansson-type curved crystal spectrometer and energy-tunable synchrotron radiation. The CK yields were derived from the relative L x-ray intensity jumps...

Separation of two-electron photoexcited atomic processes near the inner-shell threshold

Kavčič, M. ; Žitnik, M. ; Bučar, K. ; Mihelič, A. ; Štuhec, M. ; Szlachetko, Jakub ; Cao, Wei ; Mori, R. Alonso ; Glatzel, P.

In: Physical Review Letters, 2009, vol. 102, no. 14, p. 143001

By means of a high resolution resonant inelastic x-ray scattering spectroscopy, we have for the first time separated spectral features pertaining to different two-electron atomic processes in the vicinity of an inner-shell threshold. Contributions of shakeoff, shakeup, and resonant 1s3p double excitations were extracted from the Ar KM-M2,3M...

A series of x-ray emission spectra of xenon in the region of L₃M 5,4(Lα1,2) and L₃N5,4 (Lβ2,15) lines were recorded along the polarization direction of the incoming photons with energies ranging from 4779.4 to 4804.4 eV. A combination of monochromatic photon beam and high resolution x-ray spectrometer...
