An adaptation of kamishibai as an educational kit for reproductive health in India

Nakaya-Sommet, Maki ; Sommet, Moritz

In: The Art of Kamishibai: The Word of the Image and the Image of the Word, International Symposium, Ljubljana, May 10-13, 2018. Online Compendium

This paper presents an on-going product design project that aims to improve reproductive health education in India through Japanese paper theatre (kamishibai). The educational kit resulting from the project alters the conventional form of kamishibai to adapt it to local conditions and make it easier to use, allowing untrained persons to teach this complex subject matter. We discuss the pilot...

Appearance and functionality of electronic books : lessons from the visual book and hyper-textbook projects

Crestani, Fabio ; Landoni, Monica ; Melucci, Massimo

In: International journal on digital libraries, 2006, vol. 6, no. 2, p. 192-209

We present the results and the lessons learned from two separate and independent studies into the design, development, and evaluation of electronic books for information access: the Visual Book and the Hyper-TextBook. The Visual Book explored the importance of the visual component of the book metaphor in the production of “good” electronic books for referencing. The Hyper-TextBook...

Managing Collaborative Feedback Information for Distributed Retrieval

Felber, Pascal ; Luu, T. ; Rajman, M. ; Rivière, Étienne

In: Proceedings of the 6th Workshop on Large-Scale Distributed Systems for Information Retrieval (LSDS-IR'08), 2008, p. 27-34

Despite the many research efforts invested recently in peer-to-peer search engines, none of the proposed system has reached the level of quality and efficiency of their centralized counterpart. One of the main reasons for this inferior performance is the difficulty to attract a critical mass of users that would make the peer-to-peer system truly competitive. We argue that decentralized search...
