Jayol, Aurélie ; Saly, Marion ; Nordmann, Patrice ; Ménard, Armelle ; Poirel, Laurent ; Dubois, Véronique

In: Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2017, vol. 72, no. 9, p. 2507–2511

ObjectivesTo determine the susceptibility to colistin of Hafnia alvei and Hafnia paralvei, and to compare methods for colistin resistance detection in the Hafnia genus.MethodsA collection of 25 Hafnia isolates was studied. Species were identified by using 16S rRNA gene sequencing with subsequent phylogeny analysis. Susceptibility to colistin was determined using the broth microdilution (BMD)...

Cross-resistance to human cationic antimicrobial peptides and to polymyxins mediated by the plasmid-encoded MCR-1?

Dobias, Jan ; Poirel, Laurent ; Nordmann, Patrice

In: Clinical Microbiology and Infection, 2017, p. -

To evaluate whether acquired resistance to cationic antimicrobial peptides (CAMP) group molecules, being normal components of the human immune system, may select co-resistance to antibiotic peptides such as polymyxins, considering they share the same mechanism of action. We aimed to evaluate strains producing the recently identified plasmid-encoded polymyxin resistance determinant MCR-1,...

KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae, finally targeting Turkey

Labarca, Jaime ; Poirel, Laurent ; Özdamar, M. ; Turkoglü, S. ; Hakko, E. ; Nordmann, Patrice

In: New Microbes and New Infections, 2014, vol. 2, no. 2, p. 50–51

We report here the first identification of the worldwide spread of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-2-producing and carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae clone ST258 in Turkey, a country where the distantly-related carbapenemase OXA-48 is known to be endemic. Worryingly, this isolate was also resistant to colistin, now considered to be the last-resort antibiotic for carbapenem-resistant isolates.
