Oxygen, carbon and strontium isotope systematics in two profiles across the Glarus thrust : implications for fluid flow

Abart, Rainer ; Badertscher, Nicolas P. ; Burkhard, Martin ; Povoden, Erwin

In: Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 2002, vol. 143, p. 192-208

The Glarus thrust is a prominent tectonic feature in the eastern Helvetic Alps. It has been recognized as a potential major pathway for syntectonic crustal scale fluid flow. The oxygen, carbon and strontium isotope patterns obtained from two vertical profiles across the thrust indicate fundamentally different flow regimes in the southern section of the thrust, where the footwall is represented by...

The Social Dynamics of Social Science Research: Between Poetry and the Conveyer Belt

Abbey, Emily ; Zittoun, Tania

In: Qualitative Studies, 2010, vol. 1, no. 1, p. 2-17

This paper considers the semiotic organization of the research process in the social sciences. It offers a detailed analysis of the semiotic organization of a much used technique in the social sciences: the one-on-one non-directive interview. We consider how different signs might constrain the researcher’s thoughts and actions within the ongoing processes of interview dialogue. We are...

A WOS-based solution for high performance computing

Abdennadher, Nabil ; Babin, Gilbert ; Kropf, Peter

In: 1st IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid, 2001, p. 568-573

Most of the development environments for high performance parallel applications require that all the computing modules and resources be known in advance. The execution environment must know where the different program modules will be executed, and must properly configure each computer involved in the execution. We describe how the Web Operating System (WOSTM) environment may be used to...

A dynamically configurable environment for high performance computing

Abdennadher, Nabil ; Babin, Gilbert ; Kropf, Peter ; Kuonen, Pierre

In: Advanced Simulation Technologies Conference (ASTC), 2000, p. 236-241

Current tools available for high performance computing require that all the computing nodes used in a parallel execution be known in advance: the execution environment must know where the different "chunks" of programs will be executed, and each computer involved in the execution must be properly configured. In this paper, we describe how the Web Operating System (WOS™) environment may be used...

Recherche d'information plurilingue

Abdou, Samir ; Savoy, Jacques (Dir.)

Statistical and Comparative Evaluation of Various Indexing and Search Models

Abdou, Samir ; Savoy, Jacques

In: Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS), 2006, vol. 4182, p. 362-373

This paper first describes various strategies (character, bigram, automatic segmentation) used to index the Chinese (ZH), Japanese (JA) and Korean (KR) languages. Second, based on the NTCIR-5 test-collections, it evaluates various retrieval models, varying from classical vector-space models to more recent developments in probabilistic and language models. While no clear conclusion was reached for...

Considérations sur l’évaluation de la robustesse en recherche d’information

Abdou, Samir ; Savoy, Jacques

Aging studies on micro-fabricated alkali buffer-gas cells for miniature atomic clocks

Abdullah, Salman ; Affolderbach, Christoph ; Gruet, Florian ; Mileti, Gaetano

In: Applied Physics Letters, 2015/106//163505/1-5

We report an aging study on micro-fabricated alkali vapor cells using neon as a buffer gas. An experimental atomic clock setup is used to measure the cell’s intrinsic frequency, by recording the clock frequency shift at different light intensities and extrapolating to zero intensity. We find a drift of the cell’s intrinsic frequency of (-5.2 ± 0.6) × 10-11/day and quantify...
