In: Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, 2008, vol. 55, no. 5, p. 393 - 408

We describe a new microsporidian species Binucleata daphniae, n. g., n. sp., that infects the integument cells lining the hemocoele cavity of the carapace and the postabdomen of the cladoceran Daphnia magna Straus. Infected cells filled with spores accumulate as large clusters in the carapace cavity and heavily infected hosts are detected by their opaque appearance. Despite the parasite's...

Onset of synaptogenesis in the plexiform layers of the chick retina: A transmission electron microscopic study

Drenhaus, Ulrich ; Voigt, Tilman ; Rager, Günter

In: Microscopy Research and Technique, 2007, vol. 70, no. 4, p. 329 - 335

The presently acknowledged onset of synaptogenesis in the chick retina from embryonic day 12 (E12) onward stands in contrast with the appearance of spontaneous electrical activity, of presynaptic proteins, or of neurotransmitters during early formation of the inner (E6-E8) and outer (E9) plexiform layers. Therefore, we investigated the chick retina from E6 to E12 at which age first synapses...

Shape and position of the sarcoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi apparatus in the sole plate and remaining subsarcolemmal muscle region of the mouse using imidazole-osmium staining

Voigt, Tilman ; Dauber, Wolfgang ; Bensemann-Ryvkin, Irina ; Härtel, Xenia

In: Microscopy Research and Technique, 2003, vol. 61, p. 419

By means of thin (≤150 nm) and thick (>150 nm) sections, the shape and position of the sarcoplasmic reticulum and of the Golgi apparatus in the sole plate and in the remaining subsarcolemmal sarcoplasmic region were investigated. For this purpose the membranes were stained by means of imidazole-osmium postfixation and unstained sections analyzed under the electron microscope. Both in the...
