Context: A Machine Learning based System (MLS) is a software system including one or more components that learn how to perform a task from a given data set. The increasing adoption of MLSs in safety critical domains such as autonomous driving, healthcare, and finance has fostered much attention towards the quality assurance of such systems. Despite the advances in software testing, MLSs bring...

A fast direct solver for nonlocal operators in wavelet coordinates

Harbrecht, Helmut ; Multerer, Michael

In: Journal of computational physics, 2021, vol. 428, p. 15 p

In this article, we consider fast direct solvers for nonlocal operators. The pivotal idea is to combine a wavelet representation of the system matrix, yielding a quasi- sparse matrix, with the nested dissection ordering scheme. The latter drastically reduces the fill-in during the factorization of the system matrix by means of a Cholesky decomposition or an LU decomposition, respectively. This...

Dietary chloride deficiency syndrome : pathophysiology, history, and systematic literature review

Signorelli, Giulia C. ; Bianchetti, Mario G. ; Jermini, Luca M. M. ; Agostoni, Carlo ; Milani, Gregorio P. ; Simonetti, Giacomo D. ; Lava, Sebastiano A. G.

Metabolic alkalosis may develop as a consequence of urinary chloride (and sodium) wasting, excessive loss of salt in the sweat, or intestinal chloride wasting, among other causes. There is also a likely underrecognized association between poor salt intake and the mentioned electrolyte and acid–base abnormality. In patients with excessive loss of salt in the sweat or poor salt intake, the...
