Different metal oxide particles are dye labeled by a novel and versatile approach based on aryldiazonium salt chemistry. For dye labeling the particles, the simplicity of aryldiazonium salts to be grafted onto metallic or metal oxide surface is advantageous. The salt is used as a linking agent for attaching the fluorescent molecules.

We describe the use of a bright-field microscope for dynamic light scattering experiments on weakly scattering samples. The method is based on collecting a time sequence of microscope images and analyzing them in the Fourier space to extract the characteristic time constants as a function of the scattering wave vector. We derive a theoretical model for microscope imaging that accounts for (a) the...

We demonstrate that ultralow-level Al impurities on a silicon surface can be measured by using the high-resolution grazing emission x-ray fluorescence (GEXRF) technique combined with synchrotron-radiation excitation. An Al-impurity level of about 10¹² atoms/cm² was reached by observing the Al Kα x-ray fluorescence in the resonant Raman-scattering background-“free” regime by...

We present time-resolved measurements of the laser-induced fluorescence from Cs atoms and Cs*HeN exciplexes in a solid ⁴He matrix. The linear Cs*He₌₂ exciplex is strongly quenched by a radiationless transformation into a ring-shaped Cs*HeN=6,7 exciplex, which decays radiatively with a lifetime of 88±2 ns. The analysis...

The Ca²⁺-binding protein (CaBP) parvalbumin (PV) is strongly expressed in cerebellar Purkinje neurones (PNs). It is considered a pure Ca²⁺ buffer, lacking any Ca²⁺ sensor function. Consistent with this notion, no PV ligand was found in dendrites of PNs. Recently, however, we observed for a related CaBP that ligand-targeting differs substantially between dendrites and axons. Thus, here we...
