Fertility decisions and pension reforms : evidence from natural experiments in Italy

Billari, Francesco C. ; Galasso, Vincenzo

The emergence of old-age social security has been linked to general fertility decline, and in recent years pension reforms have emerged as a response to the challenges of population ageing, in turn partially a consequence of fertility decline. Understanding the link between social security and low fertility is therefore very important. In this paper we analyse the link between fertility and...

With strings attached : grandparent-provided child care, fertility, and female labor market outcomes

Garcia-Moran, Eva ; Kuehn, Zoe

Grandparents are regular providers of free child care. Similar to any other form of child care, availability of grandparent-provided child care affects fertility and labor market decisions of women positively. We find that women in Germany, residing close to parents or in-laws are more likely to have children and that as mothers they are more likely to hold a regular part-or fulltime job....

Raharimalala, Hanitriaina Olga Jeannine ; Gobat, Jean-Michel (Dir.)

Thèse de doctorat : Université de Neuchâtel, 2011 ; 2239.

Madagascar forests are among the most biologically rich and unique ecosystems. Strong pressure from human activities causes, however, a rapid destruction of natural habitats and a massive loss of biodiversity. Slash and burn is one of the causes of this pressure. This is a traditional practice in many areas and predominantly in Madagascar, particularly in the South-West. Secondary vegetation that...

Genetic and ecological aspects of gene flow from wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to Aegilops L. species

Schoenenberger, Nicola ; Küpfer, Philippe (Dir.)

Thèse de doctorat : Université de Neuchâtel, 2005 ; 1872.

Genetic and ecological aspects of gene flow from wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to Aegilops L. species Hybridisation and introgression from crops to wild relatives is a key issue in risk assessment. In the present study, hybridisation and introgression dynamics from hexaploid wheat (2n=42) to tetraploid Aegilops species (2n=28) were investigated by experiments in natural conditions or in the...
