An empirical pilot in assessing student teachers' biography and instructional beliefs

Koch, Alexander F.

In: Electronic Proceedings of the ESERA 2019 Conference. The beauty and pleasure of understanding : engaging with contemporary challenges through science education, 2020, p. 1749-1756

Switzerland is undergoing a curricular change. Curriculum 21 has been ratified by all 21 German-speaking and is currently being implemented. With this innovation, German-speaking Switzerland will move toward a more technology-oriented education. What has been Manual Training or Wood/ Metalwork Classes is now replaced by composite subjects such as Nature and Technology. These subjects now...

Essays in institutional investors and financial markets

Cötelioglu, Efe ; Plazzi, Alberto (Dir.)

Thèse de doctorat : Università della Svizzera italiana, 2021 ; 2021ECO002.

I use empirical methods to study the effect of institutional investors on financial markets. My studies provide novel evidence on the commonality in liquidity of fixed-income securities, the liquidity provision of hedge funds and mutual funds in equity markets, and the information diffusion from credit default swaps to equities.

Initial Evidence for the Hypersensitivity Hypothesis : Emotional Intelligence as a Magnifier of Emotional Experience

Fiori, Marina ; Ortony Andrew

In: Journal of Intelligence, 2021, vol. 9(2), no. 24, p. 17

In this article, we provide preliminary evidence for the ‘hypersensitivity hypothesis’, according to which Emotional Intelligence (EI) functions as a magnifier of emotional experience, enhancing the effect of emotion and emotion information on thinking and social perception. Measuring ability EI, and in particular Emotion Understanding, we describe an experiment designed to determine...

Emotion information processing as a new component of emotional intelligence : Theoretical framework and empirical evidence

Fiori, Marina ; Udayar, Shagini ; Vesely Maillefer, Ashley

In: European Journal of Personality

The relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and emotion information processing (EIP) has received surprisingly little attention in the literature. The present research addresses these gaps in the literature by introducing a conceptualization of emotional intelligence as composed of two distinct components: (1) EIK or emotion Knowledge component, captured by current ability emotional...

New species, revision, and phylogeny of Ronzotherium Aymard, 1854 (Perissodactyla, Rhinocerotidae)

Tissier, Jérémy ; Antoine, Pierre-Olivier ; Becker, Damien

In: European Journal of Taxonomy, 2021, vol. 753, p. 1-80

Ronzotherium is one of the earliest Rhinocerotidae in Europe, which first appeared just after the Eocene/Oligocene transition (Grande Coupure), and became extinct at the end of the Oligocene. It is a large-sized rhinocerotid, with a special position in the phylogeny of this group, as being one of the earliest-branching true Rhinocerotidae. However, its intra-generic systematics has never been...

A new glirid-like cricetid from the lower Oligocene of Southern China

Lu, Xiao-Yu ; Ni, Xijun ; Maridet, Olivier

In: Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, 2021, p. e1917587

Here we report a new cricetid s.l., Caecocricetodon yani, gen. et sp. nov., discovered in the early Oligocene of the Caijiachong Formation in Yunnan Province, China. The new cricetid differs from all known cricetids or stem muroids by its particular molar pattern displaying numerous crests and spurs. Our phylogenetic analysis based on a matrix including 42 taxa and 72 characters indicates...

Security of supply and the energy transition : the households' perspective investigated through a discrete choice model with latent classes

Motz, Alessandra

In: Energy economics, 2021, vol. 97, no. May, p. 16 p

A consumer-centric, market-based approach to the security of electricity supply has been recognized as increasingly important in the context of the energy transition. Nonetheless, there is no clear-cut evidence regarding the drivers of consumer preferences toward security and the perceived trade-offs between security and sustainability. Using stated preference data, we develop a discrete...

Consumer acceptance of the energy transition in Switzerland : the role of attitudes explained through a hybrid discrete choice model

Motz, Alessandra

In: Energy policy, 2021, vol. 151, no. April, p. 15 p

While several countries progress in the energy transition, the social acceptance of new infrastructures becomes increasingly important. We focus on market acceptance, and study the preferences of Swiss households with respect to selected energy sources used for electricity generation. By applying a hybrid discrete choice model with latent variables on stated preference data, we assess...
