The use of shear stress for targeted drug delivery

Saxer, Till ; Zumbuehl, Andreas ; Mueller, Bert

In: Cardiovascular Research, 2013, vol. 99, no. 2, p. 328-333

Stenosed segments of arteries significantly alter the blood flow known from healthy vessels. In particular, the wall shear stress at critically stenosed arteries is at least an order of magnitude higher than in healthy situations. This alteration represents a change in physical force and might be used as a trigger signal for drug delivery. Mechanosensitive drug delivery systems, that...

Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3−δ (BSCF) feedstock development and optimization for thermoplastic forming of thin planar and tubular oxygen separation membranes

Salehi, Mehdi ; Clemens, Frank ; Pfaff, Ewald M. ; Junior, Roberto M. ; Bergmann, Carlos P. ; Diethelm, Stefan ; Neururer, Christoph ; Graule, Thomas ; Grobéty, Bernard

In: Journal of Membrane Science, 2013, p. -

This paper presents the processing steps for producing thin planar and tubular oxygen separation membranes by thermoplastic forming of Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3−δ (BSCF) with polystyrene (PS) and stearic acid (SA) as binder. The influence of powder content on the shape stability of thin membranes (tubular and planar structures)...

Cytotype differences modulate eco-geographical differentiation in the widespread plant Centaurea stoebe

Hahn, Min A. ; Müller-Schärer, Heinz

In: Ecology, 2013, vol. 94, no. 5, p. 1005–1014

The evolution of optimal life history strategies is central for the fitness of organisms in a given environment. Besides divergent selection, other factors may determine regional patterns of differentiation and contribute to life history evolution. In a common-garden environment over three years, we examined life history differentiation across different eco-geographical regions and effects of a...

A general method to label metal oxide particles with fluorescent dyes using aryldiazonium salts

Dechézelles, Jean-François ; Griffete, Nébéwia ; Dietsch, Hervé ; Scheffold, Frank

In: Particle & Particle Systems Characterization, 2013, vol. 30, no. 7, p. 579-583

Different metal oxide particles are dye labeled by a novel and versatile approach based on aryldiazonium salt chemistry. For dye labeling the particles, the simplicity of aryldiazonium salts to be grafted onto metallic or metal oxide surface is advantageous. The salt is used as a linking agent for attaching the fluorescent molecules.

High bias anomaly in YBa₂Cu₃O7−x/LaMnO₃₊/YBa₂Cu₃O7−x superconductor/ferromagnetic insulator/superconductor junctions: Evidence for a long-range superconducting proximity effect through the conduction band of a ferromagnetic insulator

Golod, T. ; Rydh, A. ; Krasnov, V. M. ; Marozau, Ivan ; Uribe-Laverde, Miguel Angel ; Satapathy, Dillip Kumar ; Wagner, Th. ; Bernhard, Christian

In: Physical Review B, 2013, vol. 87, no. 13, p. 134520

We study the perpendicular transport characteristics of small superconductor/ferromagnetic insulator/superconductor (YBa₂Cu₃O7−x/LaMnO₃₊/YBa₂Cu₃O7−x) tunnel junctions. At a large bias voltage V∼1 V we observe a steplike onset of excess current that occurs below the superconducting transition temperature Tc and is easily suppressed by a...
