Innate immune cells and their contribution to T-cell-based immunotherapy

Ginefra, Pierpaolo ; Lorusso, Girieca ; Vannini, Nicola

In: International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2020, vol. 21, no. 12, p. 4441

In recent years, immunotherapy has become the most promising therapy for a variety of cancer types. The development of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapies, the adoptive transfer of tumor-specific T cells (adoptive cell therapy (ACT)) or the generation of T cells engineered with chimeric antigen receptors (CAR) have been successfully applied to elicit durable immunological responses in...

Pathogenicity genomic island-associated CrpP-like fluoroquinolone-modifying enzymes among Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates in Europe

Ortiz de la Rosa, José Manuel ; Nordmann, Patrice ; Poirel, Laurent

In: Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2020, vol. 64, no. 7, p. -

Many transferable quinolone resistance mechanisms have been identified in Gram- negative bacteria. The plasmid-encoded 65-amino-acid-long ciprofloxacin-modifying enzyme CrpP was recently identified in Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates. We analyzed a collection of 100 clonally unrelated and multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa clinical isolates, among which 46 were positive for crpP-like genes,...

Ongoing dissemination of OXA-244 carbapenemase-producing Escherichia coli in Switzerland and their detection

Masseron, Amandine ; Poirel, Laurent ; Falgenhauer, Linda ; Imirzalioglu, Can ; Kessler, Julie ; Chakraborty, Trinad ; Nordmann, Patrice

In: Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2020, vol. 97, no. 3, p. 115059

OXA-244 is a derivative of OXA-48 showing weaker carbapenemase activity, compromising the detection of corresponding producers in clinical laboratories. Since 2017, the Swiss National Reference Center for Emerging Antibiotic Resistance noticed an increased identification of OXA-244-producing Escherichia coli (n=15) within the country. Different methods (biochemical and immunoassay tests,...

Spatiotemporal maps of proprioceptive inputs to the cervical spinal cord during three-dimensional reaching and grasping

Kibleur, Pierre ; Tata, Shravan R. ; Greiner, Nathan ; Conti, Sara ; Barra, Beatrice ; Zhuang, Katie ; Kaeser, Melanie ; Ijspeert , Auke ; Capogrosso, Marco

In: IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering, 2020, vol. 28, no. 7, p. 1668–1677

Proprioceptive feedback is a critical component of voluntary movement planning and execution. Neuroprosthetic technologies aiming at restoring movement must interact with it to restore accurate motor control. Optimization and design of such technologies depends on the availability of quantitative insights into the neural dynamics of proprioceptive afferents during functional movements....

Breast milk microbiota: A review of the factors that influence composition

Zimmermann, Petra ; Curtis, Nigel

In: Journal of Infection, 2020, vol. 81, no. 1, p. 17–47

Breastfeeding is associated with considerable health benefits for infants. Aside from essential nutrients, immune cells and bioactive components, breast milk also contains a diverse range of microbes, which are important for maintaining mammary and infant health. In this review, we summarise studies that have investigated the composition of the breast milk microbiota and factors that might...

Absence of parvalbumin increases mitochondria volume and branching of dendrites in inhibitory Pvalb neurons in vivo: a point of convergence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) risk gene phenotypes

Janickova, Lucia ; Rechberger, Karin Farah ; Wey, Lucas ; Schwaller, Beat

In: Molecular Autism, 2020, vol. 11, no. 1, p. 47

In fast firing, parvalbumin (PV)-expressing (Pvalb) interneurons, PV acts as an intracellular Ca2+ signal modulator with slow-onset kinetics. In Purkinje cells of PV−/− mice, adaptive/homeostatic mechanisms lead to an increase in mitochondria, organelles equally capable of delayed Ca2+ sequestering/buffering. An inverse regulation of PV and mitochondria likewise operates in cell model...

Negative association between left prefrontal GABA concentration and BDNF serum concentration in young adults

Müller, Sabrina Theresia ; Buchmann, Andreas ; Haynes, Melanie ; Ghisleni, Carmen ; Ritter, Christopher ; Tuura, Ruth ; Hasler, Gregor

In: Heliyon, 2020, vol. 6, no. 5, p. e04025

The brain's major inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) play important roles in several stress- related disorders. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) allows for non-invasive quantification of GABA concentration in the brain. We investigated the relationship between GABA concentration in the left dorsolateral prefrontal...

Mitophagy and mitochondria biogenesis are differentially induced in rat skeletal muscles during immobilization and/or remobilization

Deval, Christiane ; Calonne, Julie ; Coudy-Gandilhon, Cécile ; Vazeille, Emilie ; Bechet, Daniel ; Polge, Cécile ; Taillandier, Daniel ; Attaix, Didier ; Combaret, Lydie

In: International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2020, vol. 21, no. 10, p. 3691

Mitochondria alterations are a classical feature of muscle immobilization, and autophagy is required for the elimination of deficient mitochondria (mitophagy) and the maintenance of muscle mass. We focused on the regulation of mitochondrial quality control during immobilization and remobilization in rat gastrocnemius (GA) and tibialis anterior (TA) muscles, which have very different atrophy...

Overcommuting pairs in groups and 3-manifolds bounding them

Liechti, Livio ; Marché, Julien

In: Journal of the London Mathematical Society, 2020, p. -

We introduce the notions of overcommutation and overcommutation length in groups, and show that these concepts are closely related to representations of the fundamental groups of 3-manifolds and their Heegaard genus. We give many examples including translations in the affine group of the line and provide upper bounds for the overcommutation length in SL2, related to the Steinberg relation.

Fish, amphibian and reptilian assemblage from the middle Miocene locality Gračanica—Bugojno palaeolake, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Vasilyan, Davit

In: Palaeobiodiversity and Palaeoenvironments, 2020, vol. 100, no. 2, p. 437–455

This paper presents the first fossil fish, amphibian and reptilian fauna from Bosnia and Herzegovina Dinarides. The fauna of ectothermic vertebrates of the Bugojno palaeolake, dated to 15.2–14.0 Ma, composes of killifishes (Cyprinodontiformes indet.), a barb (Barbini indet. (aff. Barbus), a crocodile newt (Chelotriton sp.), a painted frog (Latonia sp.) and a crocodile (Alligatoroidea indet....
