Turonian radiolarians from Karnezeika, Argolis peninsula, Peloponnesus (Greece)

Bandini, Alexandre N. ; Baumgartner, Peter O. ; Caron, Michèle

In: Eclogae Geologicae Helvetiae, 2006, vol. 99, no. Supplement 1, p. S1-S20

Near Karnezeika a roughly 140 m thick Upper Cretaceous section consists of interbedded pelagic limestones, cherts and coarse polymict breccias including ophiolites and shallow water limestones. At the base, pink pelagic limestones rest on deeply altered and fractured Lower Jurassic Pantokrator Limestone. This first pelagic facies is dated as middle Turonian, based on planktonic Foraminifera. Over...

Taxonomic revision and new species/subspecies of Middle-Late Miocene (Bessarabian) miliolids of the Family Hauerinidae Schwager from Georgia — Eastern Paratethys

Maisuradze, Lamara ; Koiava, Kakhaber ; Spezzaferri, Silvia

In: Geologica Carpathica, 2009, vol. 60, no. 5, p. 419-430

Three new miliolid taxa from Bessarabian sediments from Georgia (Eastern Paratethys) are described following the classification of Łuczkowska (1972), which has never been used before by ex-Soviet micropaleontologists. They are: Varidentella luczkowskae; Varidentella reussi (Bogdanowicz) subsp. costulata; and Affinetrina voloshinovae (Bogdanowicz) subsp. eldarica. This classification takes into...

Late Weichselian deglaciation and early Holocene development of a cold-water coral reef along the Lopphavet shelf (Northern Norway) recorded by benthic foraminifera and ostracoda

Stalder, Claudio ; Spezzaferri, Silvia ; Rüggeberg, Andres ; Pirkenseer, Claudius ; Gennari, Giordana

In: Deep Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography, 2014, vol. 99, p. 249–269

Cold-water coral (CWC) settlement in northern Norway is strongly related to the outlet-glaciers of the Fennoscandian Ice-sheet, and dating of known CWC structures show clearly post-glacial ages. Two gravity cores (POS391 559/2,277 cm long and POS391 559/3,282 cm long) were recovered on a CWC reef in the area of Lopphavet, northern Norway. Detailed investigations on lithology (sediment structures...
