Dielectric catastrophe at the Mott transition

Aebischer, Christophe ; Baeriswyl, Dionys (Dir.)

Thèse de doctorat : Université de Fribourg, 2002 ; no 1367.

The Mott metal-insulator transition is investigated as a quantum phase transition. The U - t - t’ model at half-filling is considered as a paradigm; the sign of t’ is not relevant and is taken to be positive. The phase diagram presents two Mott insulating phases with distinct symmetries and one global metallic phase which is presumed to be a Luttinger liquid for the charge degrees of freedom....

Controlling the supramolecular assembly of perfluorinated polycondensed aromatic hydrocarbons by side chain engineering

Aebischer, Olivier F. ; Jenny, Titus (Dir.) ; Weiss, Antoine (Codir.)

Synthesis and investigation of new large self-assembled supramolecules as potential electron emitters

Alameddine, Bassam ; Jenny, Titus (Dir.)

Thèse de doctorat : Université de Fribourg, 2004 ; no 1440.

Nanotechnology, a research area that covers many scientific disciplines such as Medicine, Biology, Physics and Chemistry has found a great interest in research institutions and wide applications in industries. This is due to many reasons; from these we note the control down to the molecular level providing thereby a greatest efficiency and an important added value as a reason of the low cost of...

Synthesis and application of an electronically chiral mimic of CpFe

Allemann, Christophe ; Jenny, Titus (Dir.)

Thèse de doctorat : Université de Fribourg, 2002 ; No 1369.

The field of new optically active and reactive organometallic species is of tremendous interest. Within this area, (-)-(1S)-dicarbonyliodide[μ5-(2,8,8-tri-methylbicyclo[3.2.1]oct-3,6-diene)2-yl] iron (1), called 2-Me-BOD-Fe(CO)2I, emerges as a new stage in the development of chiral cyclopentadienyl-like complexes. Studying the reactivity of 1 has shown that both its non-contiguous μ5-system and...

Synthesis of a new bowl-shaped polyarene aiming

Azzali, Aaron ; Jenny, A. Titus (Dir.)

Thèse de doctorat : Université de Fribourg, 2014.

Efficient hydrogen storage is one of the major hurdles towards a potential hydrogen economy. Curved molecules are very interesting for this purpose because of their permanent electrical dipole moment, which can induce a dipole moment on H2 molecules increasing therefore the dipole-dipole interaction and so their adsorption. This work presents the synthesis of a new bowl-shaped polyarene based on...

Two non-destructive neutron inspection techniques : prompt gamma-ray activation analysis and cold neutron tomography

Baechler, Sébastien ; Dousse, Jean-Claude (Dir.) ; Jolie, Jan (Codir.)

Thèse de doctorat : Université de Fribourg, 2002 ; no 1381.

Two non-destructive inspection techniques employing both cold neutron beams have been developed at the Swiss spallation source SINQ of the Paul Scherrer Institute: (1) prompt gamma-ray activation analysis (PGAA) and (2) neutron tomography. PGAA is a nuclear analytical method for identifying and quantifying simultaneously the elements contained in a sample. The technique consists in detecting...

Genetic control of photoreceptor terminal differentiation in Drosophila melanogaster

Bernardo-Garcia, F. Javier ; Sprecher, Simon (Dir.)
