Revue Tranel

Revue Tranel
The TRANEL collection (TRAvaux NEuchâtelois de Linguistique), journal of the Institute of Linguistics and Communication of the University of Neuchatel, established in 1980, is published twice a year. The volumes are published on paper, but the entire collection is also available free of charge on RERO doc. Its directions are various : semantics, pragmatics, syntax, speech therapy, sociolinguistics, conversational analysis, bilingualism, terminology, diachronic change, variation, language skills, etc. The journal provides an overview of research at the Institute of Linguistics and Communication, it also provides an opportunity for researchers from other backgrounds to offer original themes and begin editing an issue.
It works on the principle of peer review, but reserves itself the right to refuse publication of an article, even after revision, that would be considered of insufficient scientific quality by experts.

Remarques sur l'usage futur du passé composé

    de Saussure, Louis

In: Revue Tranel (Travaux neuchâtelois de linguistique), 2009, vol. 51, p. 45-60

This paper attempts to identify the pragmatic constraints that license the use of the present perfect with a future time adverb in French, such as J'ai bientôt fini (lit. 'I have soon finished') or Dans une heure, le président est sorti de sa réunion (lit. 'In an hour, the president has exited from his meeting'). Previous studies have argued that only aspectual verbs are...

    de Saussure, Louis

In: Revue Tranel (Travaux neuchâtelois de linguistique), 2006, vol. 44, p. 57-75

The paper suggests that the notion of metarepresentation, usual in cognitive pragmatics and philosophy of language, allows for a fine-grained analysis of specific interpretive effects in represented thought and speech in the specific context of written press. It is argued, on the theoretical side, that metarepresentation can significantly improve the operability of the classical and usual...

Remarques sur l’usage interprétatif putatif du futur

Morency, Patrick ; de Saussure, Louis

In: Revue Tranel (Travaux neuchâtelois de linguistique), 2006, vol. 45, p. 43-70

In this article we will take a look at a particular epistemic usage of the French future tense. Our approach is a radically pragmatic one, where we posit that what should be taken into account for the interpretation of such occurrences depends more upon pragmatic than semantic aspects. Building upon Sperber & Wilson’s distinction between descriptive and non-descriptive usages of...

Usages interprétatifs de la deixis présente

    de Saussure, Louis

In: Revue Tranel (Travaux neuchâtelois de linguistique), 2006, vol. 45, p. 19-42

This paper focuses on non standard uses of the present indexical maintenant in French, typically free indirect speech usages, and argumentative usages. First, two approaches of indexicality are briefly compared. In the Continental tradition, indexicality is a notion traditionally associated with "subjectivity", with a regard to psychosocial theories of action. In the Analytical tradition,...
