Lope y la publicación de ocho (o diez) comedias «en otra parte»... ¿un primer proyecto editorial para su teatro? = Lope de Vega and the Publication of Eight (or Ten) Plays “en otra parte”… A First Editorial Project for his Theatre?

Fernández Rodríguez, Daniel

In: Arte Nuevo : Revista de estudios áureos, 2019, vol. 6, p. 330-334

The aim of this paper is to study the final lines of El peregrino en su patria (1604), which have not received the attention that they deserve, although they have given rise to different interpretations. As I will attempt to argue by analysing the text and its context, Lope seems to sketch two editorial projects of distinct nature, both of which were frustrated by the theatre business: the...

La paciencia en la fortuna: An Unprinted Play by Lope de Vega = La paciencia en la fortuna: una obra inédita de Lope de Vega

Gómez Martos, Francisco

In: Arte Nuevo : Revista de estudios áureos, 2019, vol. 6, p. 57-89

La paciencia en la fortuna is an early seventeenth-century Spanish play on royal favoritism whose author remains unknown. This is an entertaining, thoughtful, and well-written play that, aside from being listed in some catalogs of Spanish theater, has so far received no attention from scholars. This article explores the unprinted play, traces its textual history, places it into the wide...

In: Arte Nuevo : Revista de estudios áureos, 2018, vol. 5, p. 165-188

This article inicially presents a detailed analysis of the metric-dramatic structure of the two extant autograph autos sacramentales by Lope de Vega, Obras son amores and Las hazañas del segundo David. Departing from some considerations about the structural organization of these two texts, mainly using Lope’s polimetry as a guiding tool, this article focuses in its second part on...

El apéndice poético de las Rimas (1609 [1602]) y su relevancia en la figuración de Lope de Vega como Autor = The Poetic Appendix to Rimas (1609 [1602]) and its Relevance in Lope de Vega’s Self-Fashioning as an Author

Avilés Icedo, César

In: Arte Nuevo : Revista de estudios áureos, 2018, vol. 5, p. 1-30

In this work, I analyze the twelve encomiastic poems that frame Lope de Vega’s Rhymes (1609[1602]). The approach is that these poems contribute to fashion Lope as an author, in spite of the formulaic load that pervades them, and that they offer the possibility of approaching a specific rhetoric in compositions of this kind. The analysis is done in the backlight of three aspects which are...

These references can be found in different types of texts; however, in the present paper we will focus on a listing and paratexts since both contain relevant information on the literary production and biography of women writers as well as on their relationship or links with other writers. The information obtained...

The period of emergence of commercial theatre in early modern Spain produced only a little amount of printed plays. The present article describes, from the perspective of textual and cultural bibliography, the ideological and commer cial strategies made by stationers and authors in a noncodified context, before the crystallization of an hegemonic editorial pattern. The analysis is constituted by...

La contaminatio genérica en el Huerto deshecho: una constante contructiva en la poesía del último Lope

Calvo, Florencia ; González, Ximena

In: Arte Nuevo, 2017, vol. 4, p. 335-356

In this work, we propose a journey through Lope de Vegaʼs Huerto deshecho, an elegy written by the poet in his last years. We part from the idea coined by critics for the work of a generic contaminatio taking into account especially the epic and the satirical discourse. To this mixture is added the clear presence of poetic species such as the eclogue, the elegy or the ode plus a...
