Maps and plans of Geneva and area
The collection of maps and plans of the Centre d'iconographie genevoise gathers the entirety of all map collections of the Bibliothèque de Genève and the Musées d'art et d'histoire (former collection of the « Vieux-Genève ») illustrating Geneva and its area. It gathers more than 6000 documents including geographic documents as well as urban planning maps or architectural plans and it allows us to trace the territorial development of the city and its area from 1538 to 1950. It includes masterpieces like the Léman map drawn in 1588 by the mayor Jean du Villard (1539-1610) or a map of Geneva and its area drawn around 1730 by the officer Jacques-Barthélémy Micheli Du Crest (1690-1766).
