Multiple colonization with highly resistant bacteria: carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae, carbapenemase-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa, carbapenemase-producing Acinetobacter baumannii, and glycopeptide-resistant Enterococcus faecium

Girlich, Delphine ; Nordmann, Patrice ; Lécuyer, Hervé ; Berche, Patrick ; Marmorat-Khuong, Anne ; Gros, Isabelle ; Cuzon, Gaëlle ; Dortet, Laurent

In: Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2015, p. -

The dissemination of carbapenemase-producing bacteria worldwide is an important source of concern because carbapenemase producers are multidrug resistant (Nordmann and Poirel, 2014). National guidelines increasingly recommend a systematic screening of at least carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) and glycopeptide-resistant enterococci (GRE) in patients admitted to hospitals who have...

OXA-253, a variant of the carbapenem-hydrolyzing class D β-Lactamase OXA-143 in Acinetobacter baumannii

Girlich, Delphine ; Damaceno, Quésia S. ; Oliveira, Adriana Cristina ; Nordmann, Patrice

In: Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2014, vol. 58, no. 5, p. 2976–2978

The carbapenem-hydrolyzing class D β-lactamase OXA-253 was identified in an Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolate belonging to sequence type 113 (ST113) in Brazil. OXA-253 shares 93.8% amino acid identity with OXA-143. The blaOXA-253 gene is located on a ca. 20-kb plasmid. The genetic environment of the blaOXA-253 gene shares the highest identity with...

Evaluation of Etest® strips for detection of KPC and metallo-carbapenemases in Enterobacteriaceae

Girlich, Delphine ; Halimi, Diane ; Zambardi, Gilles ; Nordmann, Patrice

In: Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2013, vol. 77, no. 3, p. 200–201

The performance of Etest KPC and MBL strips (bioMérieux) was evaluated as compared to other phenotypic tests for detecting carbapenemases of the KPC-type and metallo-β-lactamases, respectively, on 133 well-characterized enterobacterial isolates. KPC and meropenem-containing MP/MPI Etest had high sensitivity (>92 %) and specificity (>97 %).

Comparative evaluation of a novel chromogenic medium (chromID OXA-48) for detection of OXA-48 producing Enterobacteriaceae

Girlich, Delphine ; Anglade, Claire ; Zambardi, Gilles ; Nordmann, Patrice

In: Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2014, vol. 77, no. 4, p. 296–300

Comparative evaluation of the recently developed chromogenic culture medium chromID OXA-48 (bioMérieux) with chromID CARBA (bioMérieux) and SUPERCARBA showed that chromID OXA-48 and SUPERCARBA media have the highest sensitivity for detection of OXA-48 producing Enterobacteriaceae (91% and 93%) comparatively to chromID CARBA (21 %). The chromID OXA-48 has the highest specificity, with 100%, as...
