    By use of simulations we imputed human immunodeficiency virus type 1 drug resistance incidence to protease inhibitor-based or nonnucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitor-based combination therapy. We found that novel drugs such as tenofovir or boosted atazanavir lead to less drug resistance, most likely because of better tolerability
