    Summary
The Materials Collection is newly established at the ETH-Bibliothek in Zurich in cooperation with the Department of Architecture. As part of the Baubibliothek (building library), the collection presents a publicly accessible, systematically structured exhibition of sample materials that offers a unique symbiosis with the corresponding literary and media holdings. The collection ranges from basic, historical materials to the most important materials used in the built environment today, right down to the latest materials in the technological vanguard. To supplement the physical objects, collaboration with the network Material-Archiv (Materials Archive Association) has provided a material-specific database which details the technical characteristics and contexts of the materials and products. This joint project was launched in 2011. The collection is continually expanding and already includes about 1000 objects
