    Summary
This project is about the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) – Europe’s largest multi-sport event for young athletes between 14 and 18 years of age. The first summer edition of the EYOF was held in Brussels 1991. Two years later, in 1993, the first winter festival took place in Aosta, a small town in the Italian Alps. Since then the summer and winter festivals are a fixed element in the timetables of European NOCs and take place in two-year cycles, always in the odd years. The idea was originally launched by Dr. Jacques Rogge; the President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) at the time and is currently the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Being a participant in an EYOF can be very motivating for a young sportsman. Many athletes who are well known for winning medals at Olympic Games, World or European Championships have internationally first shown up at this event for the best young athletes of Europe. On the occasion of the Winter-EYOF 2007 in Jaca, the National Olympic Committees (NOC) of Austria and Liechtenstein had first talks concerning a joint bid for an upcoming edition of the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival. The aim of the EYOF is to bring young athletes from Europe together so that they can help to promote Olympic values: Excellence, Friendship and Respect. The NOC of Austria is very proud, that Austria has participated in all EYOF-Editions since the beginning in 1991.
