    Summary
The suggestion that a host city can and should continue its Olympic connections past the duration of the celebration of the Olympic Games has increased in prominence in recent years as the expectation that each Games leaves an legacy has gained significance in Olympic circles. Selected elements of legacy that contribute to extending a positive Olympic experience and factors that mitigate against this will be discussed under four categories of contemporary Olympic legacy: sport, infrastructure, security and celebration. These categories were chosen as they span tangible and intangible, intended and unintended, legacy outcomes. Sydney was used as a case study Olympic city as it is now just over 10 years since the Olympic Games were held there, giving adequate time to evaluate any legacy outcomes.
